Clean Clams

Yesterday I was advised by a fish vendor to wash thoroughly the eat coast clams; she said, they are sandy. Before I could blink, she suggested I buy some oatmeal or cornmeal to provoke them to open and discharge their sand. I was handed a small container of oatmeal, which I dispersed into a saline water solution I made. They clams didn’t budge but they weren’t sandy, go figure.
