Zuwai kani, Queen crab: Its name varies from one region to the next. It is called Matsuba kani in San-in region, Taiza kani in Tango peninsula, Echizen kani in Hokuriku region, and Zuwai kani in Hokkaido. Female queen crabs are just 1/10 to 1/15 smaller than male crabs, and are referred to as Seko kani, Koppe kani, Kobaku kani. This crab is from Tango peninsula in Kyoto, located along the Sea of Japan. This crab is considered uncommon in a typical restaurant in Tokyo.
