Geysers are sometimes temporary geological features generally associated with volcanic areas. As the water boils, the resulting pressure forces a superheated column of steam and water to the surface through the geyser’s internal plumbing. The formation of geysers specifically requires volcanic geothermal conditions.
The smell of sulfur captures your nose at every chance. It’s gases flow through the vapor that stinks the air. For those that are sensitive to smell, you would need nose plugs. The water is milky white or chocolate-colored from the iron. There are 11 types of onsen in the Noboribetsu area, and we have only tried 2 so far.
