There are numerous yaki-tori shops around town and recently I heard about one that serves unagi, and yakitori. When I question this combination, I am quickly shut down by two sumo wrestlers that live and breathe this shop. I am told, “it is over 60 years old and they serve this combination since then”, yet the yakitori served is not the full range of meats you would be used to.
Anyway, we sit at the counter of a local yakitori shop, the chef fans his way out of trouble and finally after eating kilos (the sumo wrestlers) of chicken, we opt for a dish that is rice, green peppers, nori flakes and chicken cooked to medium but more rare. I adore this place but it is a hell of a journey to get there.
