The Japanese no doubt copied and for good reasons. Reason # 1, there is only one Ferrari and the Japanese were cleaver enough to recognize the design and capability of Italian car design. Reason #2, they didn’t have the resources (R&D) to develop cars of this level. Reason #3, they quickly understood that they could improve on  designs instead of wasting time and resources to develop designs. The Japanese were a quick study and focused on re-development of products, not to mention their keen eye. Their products had several things that were necessary to make them commercially successful; affordable, design and functional.

After visiting the 43rd Car show in Tokyo, this vintage Honda Sports 360 from the 1960’s resembles the Ferrari 1950’s 250 GT:  http://carsboatsandbikes.com/ferrari-250-gt-the-ferris-bueller-ferrari-is-for-sure.
