I was invited last night to one of Tokyo’s oldest Bistro’s where my host had en réserve his own private stock of wines. A white paper appeared at the table, I had no idea what it was at first. The host handed me the paper and said “you choose”, it was a small list of selected fine Burgundies.
I saw at the bottom of the list G.Roumier “Les Cras 2005” and I went straight for it. The first glass made me dream. This wine isn’t typical of the vintage, and I say this confidently after trying numerous 2005 wines. In fact, I purchased a barrel of 05 Mazis Chambertin at the Hospices de Beaune and my wines are not comparable.
I tasted plenty of burgundy wines from vintage of 2005 but this wine one is absolutely immaculate. I couldn’t imagine a wine that has such balance between fruit and wood, it has so much potential for long-term aging.
The muscular tannins, yet a velvety fruit, a power to delight any wine lover. The fruit is solid and the wine in your mouth is a burgundy dream!
