The Grace Family wines are wines I know since the 1980’s when Dick Grace had a small Victorian estate. This bottle is a charity auction bottle, the family often donated wines to help the community.
It was poured alongside some French wines but served at the end, a cheese meat and then cheese course. It had obvious deep aromas of black fruits, tobacco and liquorice. It blew away the other wines in terms of shear power but California has the fruit power needed to do that.
While I am not a diehard California fan, numerous Napa wines have developed their own unique identity. This wine is one of them, balanced by some age, lush tannins, it’s a great food wine.
