A kissaten is an old school Japanese-style tea room or coffee shop. Kissaten were particularly popular amongst classical styled Japanese in the 1980’s and have become more and more scarce since.
Now a days it’s less popular and the young Japanese generation are more keen on fast food chains, i.e. Starbucks, etc. The design and atmosphere of a kissaten are smaller, older more stately establishments where the focus is quality.
Photographed are the ice coffee cubes a signature drink of this Kissaten in Tokyo.
