Kodai-Ji Temple Kyoto /1192 to 1867/

Established in 1605 it has had several ravaging fires and has been designated as important cultural property. Constructed by a noblewomen in memory of her late husband, it was financed by Tokugawa Ieyasu who was a shogun. In this period, the shoguns were the de facto rulers of the country, though officially they were appointed by the emperor.
