Temple Cuisine |Sanko-in|

While doing some reading research I came across this title, good food from a Japanese temple, essentially a vegetarian cookbook.Unfortunately it’s out of print so you need to buy it on the secondhand market.

Reading it you can discover some very basic and simple recipes if you enjoy cooking in the style of shojin ryori. Thirty years ago when I came to Japan on one of my first trips, I was invited to a Japanese temple in Kyoto where I experienced this style of food first hand. I recall that it was very refreshing and seemed connected to a spiritual way of life, an experience I never forgot.
