This is the finest tuna I have ever tasted, a Pacific bluefin tuna known as or kuro maguro in Japanese or as we say in English “black tuna”. It was caught in the Tsugaru Strait just off the tip of Oma where Japan’s main island of Honshu is separated from its northern neighboring island Hokkaido. It’s here the strait’s passage links the North Pacific Ocean with the Japan Sea – the prized tuna are often caught here. This tuna is simply wow quality!
