Largely an unrestored fortress is a monastic temple in much the same style of Ta Prohm, it was originally constructed over the site of an earlier temple, and functioned as a Buddhist monastery under Jayavarman VII.
The 13th century vandalism of Buddha images that is seen on many temples is quite apparent on Banteay Kdei but it doesn’t impact in anyway the beauty as it remains a beautiful jungle temple with few guests making unpleasant noises.
The one astonishing factor in mother nature is the jungle’s trees, almost silver lining they are luminous and overwhelming bring life to the temples setting. They fascinate me each time I visit Siem Reap.
