Surely Harry Bar is iconic but they just go too far in over-charging clients – except for the locals who would never tolerate it! Sometimes I forget that tourists are not treated fairly, and this happens throughout the world.
Cipriani once said: ‘I opened Harry’s Bar on May 13, 1931. If all the clients who now say they were among the first to walk through the doors that day actually did, the bar would have had to have been as large as Saint Mark’s Square.’ Source: Internet
But I cringe at the idea of any restaurant charging a client for a Milanese €69,00 when they use imported veal with a cost of 15/kg. Then a pasta Tagliolini Gratinati with béchamel sauce for another €69,00, and two dolce for Euro €68,00, etc.
The cuisine is irrelevant at Harry Bar but you go there because when in Venice it’s a ritual to drink a Bellini, not more, not less unless you are a known client.
