Bismarck Pizza

Otto von Bismarck was one of the most famous statesmen in 19th Century Europe. Named the “Iron Chancellor,” he was the driving force behind the 1871 unification of Germany and was a powerful force for the balance of power in the decades between the Congress of Vienna and the end of the century.


Contrary to its name this dish it isn’t a traditional cuisine of German cuisine, but it dates back to the Triple Alliance (1882) between Italy, Austria and Germany.So pizza alla Bismarck is a pizza topped with a raw egg, which after cooking it becomes a sunny side up egg in the middle of the pizza. Bismarck apparently adored eggs and so bacon and eggs on a pizza is German thing!
