The other night with friends, I tasted the Occhio di Pernice (Vin Santo di Montepulciano) vintage 1997. It is fair to say that it is a unique wine, such a wine I never tasted. It is rich, thick and molten-like, as it sticks to the glass with a concentration that I’ve never seen. Almost creamy aromas of black cherry jam, plum and candied red fruit, it coats the palate with a full-bodied, complex, unique, very persistent ripeness. This is super-concentrated jam-juice extraordinaire that shows no age at all: it will live forever!
