No hotel lobby in Tokyo can match the elegance of the Okura’s. Designed in 1962 by celebrated architect Yoshiro Taniguchi and it retains a resolutely old-style approach. While public spaces remain unchanged, the hotel still hangs in despite the influx of the modern designed hotels that are all marble clad. Unfortunately, Okura does not have any tatami suites after previous management decided to replace them with Victorian designed rooms. The destruction of the past is surrounding us with new trends of bad taste.
