Yesterday we tasted two Morgon wines side by side, and clearly the Foillard wine had more color, intensity and backbone over the competitor Lapierre. The wines were tasted blind, but somehow I managed to differentiate the two by identifying the Foillard. Marcel Lapierre’s wine was more lean yet it had a firmness that I kind of liked. After one hour I thought the Foillard wine seemed to have some hints of volatile acidity. Bottom-line, they are both well made and I suspect that the “cote du Puy” makes a slight difference.
