The moss stands still and the brown and green contrast each other, mutually exclusive in this case. Saihoji garden boasts 120 types of moss which are best in the rainy season. The pond shaped in the Chinese character of Shin = Heart, reflects the image of the founder Gyoki Bosatsu who founded 49 temples in the central provinces of Japan.

This temple dates back to the 8th Century yet many of the tress were planted in the 14th century and the garden was reconstructed Muso Kokushi. The garden is a must visit if you go to Kyoto, so add it to your list.
