Last night via the generosity of a friend (YH) we tried three fantastic 1998 wines from Bordeaux. The first was Monbousquet 1998, Trotanoy 1998, and L’Evangile. The opportunity to try these three wines was interesting. We started with the Monbousquet which in comparison to the L’Evangile, the style was different and preferred by some. I thought the L’Evangile had more depth but in a way that attracts the taster. The Monbousquet was more rustic, yet had a grip I prefer, more tannin and less velvety than the L’Evangile. The Trotanoy was corked sadly. Overall, the 1998’s are very good and especially on the right bank.
