It is wrapped in a pinkish colored silk, the box is 15cm tall and 19cm wide, it is a two tiered box but inside a doubled layer neatly encloses four tiers of wonderful foods.
The term osechi originally referred to “o”-sechi, a season or significant period. Originally, during first days of the New Year it was a taboo to use a fire and cook meals. Osechi was made by the close of the previous year, as women did not cook in the New Year.
