I have a long time Japanese friend, a soba master, an excellent skilled chef who prepares our annual osechi-ryōri. Yabe san works in the Ginza at 888 operating a small counter restaurant. Pictured here is his osechi-ryōri, a New Years meal.
The work is enormous, the variety superb and the care taken is obvious. It is This is how people in Japan begin their New Year, a special celebration of foods that are traditionally prepared in advance of January 1. Given many restaurants are closed this is the perfect substitute for foods you dream of.
