Suppon @ Matsukawa

The Suppon has an Asian reputation of making men hard, an aphrodisiac food, which some believe works for the old and randy. I am not sure because I am not old – I am just hungry.

This dish, the arm joint of the turtle was slowly cooked and was the best I have tried. The portion just right as Suppon is often served in “Nabe” and you chew the collagen and fatty bones which are both chewy and gooey. In many cases the blood is served with rice or consumed alone.

After 30+ years of eating Suppon and starting at one of the most exclusive restaurants serving turtle in Japan, namely Daichi in Kyoto, I can say I am almost an expert. Matsukawa san has the right idea how to cook suppon, a change for the better.
