Japanese aren’t afraid to line up and there is a good reason. In most places a line signifies inefficiencies but in Japan it is just the opposite. Most lines move quickly and a line is managed by staff to maintain a fluid through fare.
In the photo the first impression is “wow what a line” but it moved very quickly and the staff come from behind the cash and assist clients with their baskets at the cash. It is all about process and bring thoughtful and courteous and providing service.
