The dandelion, or ‘Taraxacum’ is one of the longest flowering season of any plant. Up until the 19th century people would pull grass out of their lawns to make room for dandelions because every part of the plant is useful, either as medicine or food. Its name comes from the French word “dent de lion” meaning “lion’s tooth” referring to the shape of the petals and was literally translated into the German word “Loewenzahn”. When it turns into a white fuzzy puff-ball the seeds then can travel up to 8 km away from the flower.
