After a quick walk from the main station on the Bahnhofstrasse, you tuck left down a small street to find restaurant Sein, a one star Michelin restaurant.
I have been a guest of restaurant Sein for over ten years, and I am always impressed by their selection of wines, and the chef’s eagerness to find a place in the gastronomic Swiss scene. The cuisine of Martin Surbeck is based on both domestic, European and international ingredients.
The restaurant is managed by Martins partner (Patricia Lackner) and they make the perfect team. Patricia is very conscientious and her warm hospitality and attention to detail makes the experience a Michelin experience. The seasonal white asparagus with an infusion of oils is still crunchy, just the way we like it.

No wonder there is a Japanese influence, it’s because the kitchen is chef Ken Nakano, who has helps transform many dishes with an Asian influence.
Below is the risotto with Japanese seaweeds and fresh lettuce, a cleaver use of seaweed and a dish that speaks for itself. The dish isn’t super technical but, but it has what it takes to make it compelling.
Sein is a maze of dishes and foods – you need to navigate through it to find your preferences.
