The pigments vary from these two types of strawberries and each are excellent in taste and certainly rare and to better understand why white strawberries are white, it is best to understand why red strawberries are red. In the life cycle of strawberries, the flowers turn into small, pea-sized green strawberries. They grow as small green strawberries until they then turn white, and as they continue to mature, strawberries when fully ripe produce proteins to turn from white to red.

These strawberries were exquisite and it isn’t often you find them in varying shades of pink, white and red.

There are several types of white strawberries which you’ll find in the markets, and In Japan they are often $5 or more per strawberry. Remember it is difficult to grow sizable and white color berries mixed with the aromas and flavors you’d expect. In Japan quality costs, and if you are used to a standard mechanically grown strawberry raised in Chile you can find them everywhere except here.
