It’s a difficult year for sakura blossoms given the fluctuation in weather and the flowers are maturing in different patterns. If you asked me a week ago, I would have said it’s almost over in a week but today in Tokyo the flowers are opened and closed and falling, all at the same time.

I heard today in Kyoto the flowers are only 25% open. That means that is the weather stays cold the flowering is delayed. Now that means you have a chance to see sakura, however sakura needs a streak of nice weather to be fully enjoyed. Despite the cold weather they can be very uneven and that takes away part of the charm.
You see in the photo below the left side of the river isn’t in bloom, while the right side is almost 100%.
