Basically the Konbu is dislodged and pulled up from the ocean bed. The tools are simply enough to do the job, no more, no less. The harvest is carefully controlled and the extraction is monitored in order that no damages are made. If you wonder what is a ‘wodden Hydroscope’, it is to see under water, similar to an under water lenses, so harvesting can be done with more precision.
