This was waiting for us upon arrival at Siam Hotel in Bangkok. Pictured above in the center are Longan, which were brought into Thailand by Chinese immigrants hundreds of years ago. It was first planted in Bangkok and then in the North and has flourished becoming one of Thailand’s largest export fruits. The most famous species are the pink Longan produced in Chiang Mai. Its flesh is pinkish and thick and delightfully sweet.
