Chardonnay 2008 – Marjan Simčič

IMG_5762

Marjan Simčič is a winegrower in the Goriška Brda wine region in Slovenia. It’s a family estate that has been growing wine grapes for five generations, and Marjan’s father, is still actively involved. Marjan has been involved for the last 20+ years, after he studied in France. His style is traditional yet modern.

The vineyards are on the Slovenian and Italian border, with half of them on each side. The maceration of the whites is around 4–6 days, although for some varieties it is a bit less.

The Chardonnay is rich, not overly oaked, has nice fruit and concentration, and a good balance. I thought it was very good, the chardonnay was sleek and the acidity clean.
