Kyoto Machiya

I am not a good tour guide, and sometimes people ask, where to go, and where to stay. If you are travelling to Kyoto and think of having more privacy, a place more casual, authentic, this is it. I admit I haven’t tried it for various reasons, mostly to do with loyalty, and staying with the same friends each visit.

Iori’s founders are associated with various educational and traditional programs in Kyoto, introducing the traditional arts of Japan. Those include Noh, Kyogen, calligraphy, flowers and tea ceremony, all under the tutelage of leading masters of each field. A special emphasis is placed on direct physical experience of the essence of these arts.

We respect and appreciate the work Iori’s founders are doing in preserving Japanese tradition and culture.

Keep up the excellent work!
